WHAT SHOULD THE BOARD DO NOW?

Well I find myself without an opinion, which is very rare for me. Turns out due to the date of the resignation, the open seat will be on the April 2010 ballot... so should the board appoint someone to serve until April, or should the seat remain vacant and be filled with the #3 vote getter in the April election?

I can see pluses and minuses to both options. Any thoughts out there?

With all the other log jams and decision making the board needs to do, they should just float this one until election time. Leave it vacant and work on first priorities- buget, school closings, hiring a new super....

I think the Board has a policy that they will appoint a replacement and they will need 4 out of 6 votes to change it.
With so many important decisions on their plate to approach them with a six member board is asking for delay.
John Lemberger's elitism that a public member could not step in with such short notice is typical of a Ph.D who by the way has not been exactly the sharpest pencil in the room.

Looks like they are going ahead with appointing someone, it will be interesting to see how many applicants there are. It could be a very long night if there are more than 2 applicants, narrowing it down to 2 with the current make-up of the board could take awhile and according to the board policy, they must narrow the pool until there are only 2 candidates and if after 4 votes they haven't selected someone, it is decided by a coin toss... hmmm...

I applied. I hear that there are four applicants, though there may be more before tomorrow at 4 PM.

I think it is good that they are filling the spot. The board is so conflicted, an odd number may make it possible to make a decision.

I am also running in the April election, so check out my website!
